Despite a decrease of 2% last year, the Hotels.com regional index is 15% higher than in 2004.

Asia region showing the way

This is in part due to the successful expansion of the casino tourist industry in this area. Brazil is also in vogue with Rio de Janeiro (+ 29%) and Sao Paulo (+ 24%). But it is a small prominent European city that places first, Davos (+ 50%).

Existing trend

This same study by Hotels.com notes the return of large American cities and a contrasted situation in old Europe. For the current year, Hotels.com management is very cautious. "The recovery continues." The trend is similar to that of last year. "There is no big acceleration", states Hotels.com marketing and strategy manager Nigel Pocklington.

Mr Pocklington estimates also that the ups and downs faced by the Arab world since the beginning of the year, and the triple disaster in Japan will have "local consequences". Nigel Pocklington quotes Tokyo and Bahrain among the affected destinations, but also Sharm el-Sheikh the holiday destination despite its distance from the Egyptian revolution.
